Act!on for a Cause
Bailey Cherry - ReBooked
From a very young age, my parents made sure I was exposed to a wide variety of books. In 2019, my family was doing our spring cleaning when we realised that we had collected hundreds of children’s books which my younger sister and I had outgrown.
To my surprise, I struggled to find a place in Hong Kong where I could send my books. Charity shops and recycling programs mainly focused on clothes and household items, while second-hand bookshops were limited and not easily accessible. This experience led me to establish reBooked, a platform that enables the re-use of kids’ books in Hong Kong.
"Through our platform, we hope to promote not only a sustainable environment but also build common interest in reading."
ReBooked focuses on making second-hand children’s books accessible and affordable. In order to encourage donors to be more active, we personally pick up books from their homes, then sell them on our online shop. In the long run, we aim to develop book donation drop boxes at more locations in Hong Kong, which would make the collection process more timely and cost-efficient. Through our platform, we hope to promote not only a sustainable environment but also build common interest in reading.

As of July 2020, we have collected over 12,000 books from more than 500 families in Hong Kong. We have sold over 4,000 books and donated over 2,000 books to our community partners. It is super inspiring to see so many people pleased with our services, and we are thrilled to be able to keep all these books out of landfills!
Our assigned mentor, Shonee, has been an incredible source of encouragement for our team. She has given us a lot of practical advice and helped us establish connections. With her support, we are now in the initial stages of discussion with a potential partner in Singapore to expand our market.
Kids4Kids has opened many doors (and windows!) for reBooked, and we are very grateful for the opportunity to be part of Action For A Cause.
