Kids4Kids encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone, during which I learned a lot about my strengths, weaknesses, and developed skills to operate under pressure.
I joined the Kids4Kids Advocates Leadership Team in 2013 and became President from 2014-15. During this time, I had the chance to participate in many activities that were not offered in the average high school environment, such as leading projects and planning events.
"After my years of working with Kids4Kids, I came to realise that failure was inevitable. I recognised that it does not necessarily equate to a lack of competence, but rather a lesson learnt and a step closer to success."
As an inexperienced high school student, I frequently encountered many failures, most notably the first Kids4Kids project I led, Market Day. I truly believed I had given it my best and had high expectations that the day would turn out successfully. Unfortunately, the event was complicated with poor weather and attendance, and many shortcomings during the planning stage came to light. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. However, after my years of working with Kids4Kids, I came to realise that failure was inevitable. I recognised that it does not necessarily equate to a lack of competence, but rather a lesson learnt and a step closer to success.
Kids4Kids hugely influenced me as a person and taught me the value of self-empowerment. Constantly being exposed to novelty has boosted my confidence, encouraged me to take risks and pursue my passions. The experience has also influenced my decision to choose medicine as a life path. Working with Kids4Kids has inspired me to develop a passion for helping children and dedicate myself to a lifelong occupation of giving back to the community.
