Kids4Kids has inspired me to see that the impact one person can have on their community and peers.
My journey with Kids4Kids started when I was a Year 5 student, submitting my own story to “Writing for a Cause” (now “My Story Creation”). Though I didn't win, I began getting more involved with Kids4Kids in secondary school as a Buddy Reader, and then a Site Leader. I had hands-on experience with how my actions can affect kids around me. I witnessed how the kids' confidence and comfort with English and reading grew. Children whom I read to began reading to me instead! It was clear that engaging students with English outside of the classroom helped reinforce the idea that learning and reading could be fun.
I became the President of Kids4Kids Advocates Leadership Team in 2018-2019 and it was eye-opening on a whole other level - I was able to see behind-the-scene operations that made big functions such as the Powered by Youth Forum and Sharing for a Cause successful. Working and leading with a team of passionate students from all over Hong Kong offered me an vibrant flow of ideas. The key skills that I honed as President were leadership and team management. Passionate individuals can do a lot, but our impact can be magnified when we all work together towards common goals. I learnt about the importance of delegation and of playing to each person's strengths.
Kids4Kids has inspired me to see that the impact one person can have on their community and peers. Kids4Kids' dedication towards empowering youth to take action is a powerful message that has encouraged me not only to look for a profession where I can help people every day, but also on the true meaning of helping others.
